Abstract

Housing has traditionally been looked at as a physical object, leaving aside the social aspect of the house and its role in satisfying human needs. It is therefore essential to promote integral approaches- propositions that starting from the house as a social process include other objectives as well- and an outstanding level of participation and coordination of the actors. The house becomes an instrument which allows for implementing educational constructing processes aiming at discovering and developing local potential, to train the community and the technical teams. Under this conception , the Social Housing Service of the Faculty of Architecture, Catholic University of Cordova, through the learning - service methodology has developed during 2004- 2005 its training and action activities along with the Citizen's participation committee of the Santa Isabel neighbourhood in Cordova. Through complementing the contributions from each area of the career and also from several social actors, different actions have been developed from an integral point of view. This has thus become one of the five best practices of Solidarity Education in the country. These actions are part of a conceptual discussion which starting from the nature of the existing problem, aims at changing the level of awareness about the need to overcome sectorial approaches , motivating a specific academic-professional training.
